2/13/2011 - Go to the course and hit irons from the marked sprinkler heads. This will tell you
very quickly how far you really hit each iron. Take notes.
2/20/2011 - The one feeling you should have before every shot is athletic confidence in your
ability to hit the shot well.
2/27/2011 - Full shots will turn out much better if you think only about making an easy pass at
the ball rather than how far or in what direction the ball has to go.
3/6/2011 - What you look straight at when you finish your swing is where you are aimed.
3/13/2011 - If you're mishitting chips shots, it's because your grip pressure is too tight.
3/20/2011 - You cannot grip the club too lightly. Hold it only so tight so that the handle doesn't
fall out of your hands, and that's about right.
3/27/2011 - Ball first, ground second. Make this your mantra for any shot except a drive
or a putt.
04/03/2011 - "Your chances of hitting that iron the right distance are [equal to] your chances of making
solid contact." - Lee Trevino
04/10/2011 - Learn how to get out of a greenside bunker so you can start putting. Don't worry
about getting close. Just get out.
04/17/2011 - Learn to get down in three from under 125 yards. No excuses.
04/24/2011 - Two short shot rules. Start with your weight to the left and keep it there. Never let
your right hand pass your left.
05/01/2011 - When reading putts on a slope, always read the putt looking uphill. The contours stand
out more clearly from that direction.
05/08/2011 - The essence of the short game is not 100, not 60, but 25 yards and in. That's where
you'll have the most short shots, and if you practice, the best chances to get up and down.
05/15/2011 - Given your level of technique, the two variables that most affect your ability to score
are performing with confidence, and shot/club selection.
05/22/2011 - Odds are you'll never have a world-class swing. There's no reason why you can't have a world-class
setup on every shot, though: grip, stance, posture, aim, ball position.
05/29/2011 - Do not hit a shot with a club that has less loft than your handicap (excepting your putter, of course).
06/05/2011 - Hit greenside chips with a straight-faced club (5- or 6-iron) as if it were an approach putt. If the
grass is short enough, actually use your putter.
06/12/2011 - Play conservatively, but not so much that your game gets small.
06/27/2011 - As many bad shots are caused by improper aim as by mistakes in technique.
07/03/2011 - Develop a selective memory. Remember your good shots. Your bad shots never happened.
07/31/2011 - From the fairway, aim at a spot halfway between the center of the green and the pin.
08/08/2011 - Practice little and often. Ten minutes a day will lead to greater improvement than one hour once a week.
